AP testing is a subject of much contention. For the past two years the testing has been held at the DoubleTree Hotel in the Lloyd District. There have been mixed emotions about the old testing center, with concerns of the noise generated by the max passing by. Others however enjoy the large rooms and the testing environment. Additionally, concerns people coming back after testing their cars, to find their cars being broken into (though potentially due to them leaving their chromebook visible). On the other hand, the central location was convenient and made for ease of testing in large rooms.
This year there are two major changes to AP testing. The first comes from the College Board, which is that most tests this year will be administered on the College Board’s digital testing service, Bluebook. 16 AP exams are going fully digital ranging from AP Human Geography to AP Environmental Science. Twelve other exams are going hybrid this year, where the multiple choice questions will be on a computer but the free response questions will continue to be on paper. College board has said that the choice to go online has been to “ensure the continued security of AP exams”.
This change is monumental, amidst an ongoing debate in schools about transitioning to digital testing. More and more schools are issuing students chromebooks and doing more work online, and the SAT has already gone fully online.
