Roosevelt vs. Sherwood game (9/5/25)
Fall events here at Roosevelt kicked off early this September with Back to School night, Club Fair, and 24 Hour Plays! Our Riders Football Team played at home for the first time this season in a close game against Sherwood, while Mens and Womens soccer are still in preseason but looking strong. Volleyball season is in full swing with Varsity playing every Tuesday and Thursday, alternating home and away. Cross Country is about halfway done with just 4 meets remaining!
In order to wrap up fall sports every year, we host Senior Night to celebrate the achievements of graduating athletes with friends and family. This year, Women’s Soccer senior night will be on October 14th, followed by Volleyball and Men’s soccer on the 21st, ending with Football on the 30th! Senior nights will be just before the games around 6:30.
Homecoming festivities are coming up in October with a tailgate barbeque hosted by the alumni association on October 17th, followed by a home game against Franklin at 7 PM. Students will also attend the annual homecoming assembly on the 17th between 1st and 2nd period! Saturday the 18th, the Homecoming dance will be in the Roosevelt Commons. This year the theme is “Western” and the dance will feature a mechanical bull!
Also on the 18th, Roosevelt will host Portland Public Schools “Shakesfest” in our own theatre! Shakesfest is a fun festival where PPS schools come together and perform pieces related to Shakespeare. The theatre will open to the public at noon, and plays should finish up by 9 PM!
Our Speech and Debate Team is gearing up for upcoming Tournaments with weekly workshops. Last year, the team was extremely successful, bringing 8 competitors to the Oregon State competition! Speech and Debate Club is welcoming and open to anyone. If you find debate interesting and want to check it out, workshops can be found in room 155. They will be attending their first tournament of the year on October 4th at Barlow Highschool, so feel free to come out and support!
College application deadlines for seniors are coming up soon, and our College and Career Center is here to help! On October 16th, you can find a College Essay workshop in room 109M from 3:00 to 3:45. The following day, they will host a Letters of Rec and Official Transcript workshop to help out with all things application related and reduce as much stress as possible!
Outdoor School overnight workshops happened September 20th, and students are getting excited to head to their fall sessions of Outdoor School! This year, weeks 1-6 will run from September 30th to November 7th. Outdoor school is a great way for high schoolers to practice their leadership skills, work with kids, and even add to a resume! If you missed out on this season’s application deadline, registration will begin again in the Spring. Outdoor School is a special learning opportunity for all Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.
School spirit is extra high here in the fall and there’s so many fun events to come out and enjoy!
