Every year Roosevelt’s leadership team plans and organizes a club fair; the event takes place during flex and helps students learn about the clubs Roosevelt offers. This year the club fair was as busy as ever on September 11th, with many clubs in attendance. They were able to reach out to students and families and make their club more known throughout the rider community.
A majority of these student groups and lunch clubs were created because peers noticed a gap in Roosevelt clubs and lack of support for groups that discuss identity and interests. Clubs are a space to discuss significant topics and fully grasp what is happening in the world or community concerning the given club.
Clubs at Roosevelt known as the Asian Student Group (ASG) started their club as an activist group due to the observed racism in the school. They later formed a club to support students with Asian heritage.“It helps create a common space because we don’t all share the same language, but all share the same food” says Ms. Nguyen, the co-advisor of the ASG.
The fair has a variety of different clubs that are always open to new members. Many of them are currently senior dominated and are looking to recruit underclassmen to their club. This creates a great opportunity to meet others and help improve the club and what it has to offer.
Our Roosevelt clubs are vital not only to the school but the student body as well. As clubs grow it fosters great minds to collaborate and bond. First and foremost, RHS clubs create an opportunity to form friendships and a community with others, where students can enjoy and learn with like-minded people. The times and dates for each club is on Trivory, you can also find flyers in the school prompting the club with all of the included information. Foremost, a place where individual students can find support and create memorable times!
