On March 19, 2026 Friends of Noise hosted its second round of its city wide Battle of the Bands, Band Slam at Roosevelt High School. The headlining bands were Council Crest, Unchecked, Adverse, Pomegranate, as well as our very own from Roosevelt High School, Stamp Collecting, and Paloma! This band slam, hosted by the non-profit Friends Of Noise who focuses on bringing more community and youth spaces within the Portland music scene, is encouraging young artists between the ages of 9-21 to register to compete with music of any kind at a high school round near you with its final round being hosted at The Off Beat venue in Kenton. This round here at Roosevelt had spectacular bands from all over the Portland area with a range of all different genres of music and I am sure you are excited to hear who of all the amazing bands that played won and got to move on to the next round.
And now, drum roll please…
In 3rd place our winning band is… Stamp Collecting with 28.5 points!!
In 2nd place our winning band is… Adverse With 28.6 points!!
And now in 1st place we have… Pomegranate with 31.5 Points!!!
The next battle will be hosted at Franklin high school on April 17th and finals will be hosted at the Off Beat venue on June 13th 2026. This event has received a lot of positive feedback and given many more young people motivation to share their musical talent. “It was cool to see a bunch of youth bands in the Roosevelt auditorium – It’s really important to get more young bands and high school bands involved and I’m excited for it to hopefully continue next year and to see more Roosevelt bands in the competition.” said Ona of the band Stamp Collecting when asked about their experience in the competition.
This grand event is sponsored by and in partnership with Schnitzer Cares Arts and Culture at PSU, the Bodecker Foundation, and the Oregon Arts Commission. In the final battle, winning bands will receive grand cash prizes as well as show bookings with the Off Beat venue with 1st place winners receiving $200 per member donated by the Bodecker Foundation. If you have a band and would like your chance to put your name out there and participate in the challenge you can register on the Friends of Noise website, https://friendsofnoise.org/ . Congratulations to all the winners and good luck to all who join the battle!
