D’Angelo Strong is a senior at Roosevelt High School, co-president of the student council and former kindness commissioner. He grew up in St. Johns, and is one of the most positive people you will ever meet. Voices of Roosevelt Reporter, Jezelle Antonio Flores sat down with D’Angelo to talk with him about his perspective on life and aspirations for the future.
Jezelle: What is a motto you live your life by?
D’Angelo: “…you only live once. Like [don’t] take life for granted, considering that…it can be so short and…it’s really important that you…do all the things that you want to do and, like, have these different experiences with these different people. It really not only gives you a story to tell, but also like it kind of just allows you to have a lot more fun.”
Jezelle: Choose four words to describe yourself and why did you choose those words?
D’Angelo: “spontaneous…confident. excited, positive, and productive…I chose these words because I feel like they just make me who I am as a person and… I really value those… attributes.”
Jezelle: What are some of your favorite hobbies and interests?
D’Angelo: “I love to draw. It’s very rare that I do that. But…when I do, I lock in, I feel I’m going with the flow. I also like baking often. I mean, like banana bread… I bake like a mean cookie, which is pretty cool.”
Jezelle: Can you share with us your vision for the future and how do you plan to achieve it?
D’Angelo: “Well, right now I’m kind of set on being an elected official. I want to get a four year degree in marketing and political science…I want to use my education to eventually go to law school and then be elected the Secretary of State for whichever [state] I happen to be in at the time. And then, … after that, maybe like a governor [or] congressman”
Jezelle: If you could tell the world one thing and people really hear it, what would you say?
D’Angelo: “… be happy…being happy gets you a long way and being positive…makes life a lot easier. And it gives you less reason to be worried and like, stress about a lot of things…genuinely like being happy… it’s really a gift that I feel like allows everybody to be their best selves.”
